On a bit of a damp and miserable morning (Ed: It's not even proper hockey weather yet!) Crostyx 2s travelled to meet Colchester away for their first game of the season. Having just come down from East, Colchester promised to be a good test of the team.
Crostyx lined up eager to see what would happen with 2nd team debuts from Academy stars Lottie Gillett and Kiera Murphy. The whistle went and Crostyx were very quickly on top of the game with Clara Johnson hassling from the off and Helene Standring making some brilliant forward runs up the line. With the high energy levels it wasn't long before Crostyx were rewarded with their first goal, nicely put across the line by George Esterhuysen-Smith.
Colchester tried to counter this but with some lovely defensive play by Lottie, Lisa Dixon and new GK Sophie Durnam they had no where to go. With a brilliant counter from Kate Feldman, Sarah Belsham nicely hit the backboard with a second goal for Crostyx. However Colchester were not going to be that easily beaten and quickly scored their first goal resulting in a half time score of 2-1 to Crostyx.
Fired up after a team talk from Coach Rusty 'Nail' Smith the girls went back out more determined than ever to play well and were very quickly rewarded with some brilliant play from Carla Preston, Kiera Murphy and Liberty Morrell which resulted in Clara getting her first goal for the L2s. Not satisfied with just the 3 goals, Crostyx continued to out play Colchester and were rewarded with their final goal which was touched across the line by Helene Standring sealing the final score 4-1 to Crostyx.
The whole team delivered an outstanding performance and special mention to the 'youngsters' on the team who all played fantastically! Here's to another great result next week.
