A sunny Ashton's playing fields greeted Crostyx as they took on Wapping 3s.
The game started brightly with a smile on the faces of the home side. They were immediately under pressure from a quick Wapping forward line with Jess Leonard being put through her paces early on. Strong tackling from Ruby James and Lisa Dixon kept the visitors at bay with some penetrating balls being distributed up the lines by Liberty Morrell and Suzy Haven.
Sarah Belsham chased down one of these long balls into the corner of the pitch and managed to keep it in play to make a cross into the D, but unfortunately the home side weren't able to convert.
Great link up play on the left with new comer Tahne Speechly showing some fancy stick skills, putting pressure on the Wapping defence with a number of shots being deflected.
Half time came with the score still at 0-0 and Crostyx feeling unlucky not to have taken the lead.
The second half started strongly after a team talk from stand in coach Ben Whibly which saw the Crostyx ladies attack the game with renewed vigour.
Wapping came at the defence again and again with some mazy runs from their left forward which was swiftly dealt with by right back Suzy haven and Carla Preston in the midfield.
Player of the match Zayna Ahmed worked tirelessly in midfield making run after run down the right flank, linking with Lucie Heyes and Sarah Belsham resulting in a number of short corners.
Emma Tweddle was unlucky not to convert her straight strike from one of these corners putting the ball narrowly outside the left post.
Battles were won and lost in the midfield with every player giving 100% and more. Immy Murphy, Chantal Pampellonne and Carla Preston worked tirelessly winning balls and threading them through to the forwards.
Crostyx conceded a short corner which was closed down quickly by Chantal Pampellonne resulting in the ball coming up into her face. Wapping played on and scored however this was subsequently disallowed.
The game ended 0-0 with Crostyx pleased with the point but optimistic for the remaining games, as this was a fantastic display of team work and determination.
