The ladies 3s headed to Romford after a good win in their first match since being promoted to Div 2. For once the whole team was ready to get going with the heat a worry for the fair skinned players!
Crostyx started well but the sandy pitch caused some issues with ball speed and the opposition pounced on a few weak passes to score. The defence regained their shape with Man of the Match Emma forcing the attackers out wide and Ruby and Jules stopping the direct line through the middle. We unfortunately lost our captain Sarah due to injury but kept out the many short corners against us.
In the second half we were much stronger with attacks from the back from newly promoted RB Teni through Saskia and linking up with Caroline and Alys up front. Crostyx dominated possession and were unlucky not to get a few goals from passes into the D. Romford were solid, physical and worked well together which explains why they finished 3rd last season. However Crostyx stood up and fought hard for the ball.
After a few short corners failed we finally got the equaliser with a perfect stop, pass, strike and deflection off the post from an ecstatic Jules. Crostyx continued to battle hard but were unable to replicate the goal despite some good chances. The defence held strong even facing the whole team for the fine minute of the game on 2 short corners. The 1-1 draw was a good result and the team will look to convert chances next week. Special mention to captain Sarah who not only drove injured to teas, she earned herself Dick of the Day by first forgetting Ruby and then driving home with the boot open.
Next week the Ladies 3s are at home at Ashton 1.30 PB- all supporters welcome xx
