Crostyx 2s 2: 2 Witham 3s
Another thriller of a draw for Crostyx 2s. Yet again with a blend of youth and experience Crostyx dominated the game. If the result was based on short corners then Crostyx won 15 -0. But lessons were there to be learnt. With lots of free flowing hockey from Crostyx, Witham scored a breakaway goal using long aerials as means of getting the ball forward. The first half was littered with uncertainty from both sides with what to do with the high ball and Witham exploited Crostyx’s nervousness well. Thereafter Witham were more defensive playing with 10 men behind the ball and as Crostyx pushed for an equaliser, Witham score another breakaway midway through the second half. Heads could have bowed, but Crostyx showed resilience and character to snatch two late goals, finally working around the Witham keeper who was the undisputed Man of the Match. Firstly Tim Jolly with a increasingly trademark nudge from an angle and then Joe Hall with a drive across into the far corner. Crostyx ended on the ascendancy looking for the win as Witham were clearly disappointed with only taking a draw from the game.
For Crostyx, the quality of hockey was again encouraging for the rest of the season and the resilience to come from two down showed heart; converting short corners remains an Achilles. Now with a greater understanding of how to play aerials, hopefully they will prove less of a threat in future games. Phoenix are next up.
