This week, Croystx Ladies 1s has a local derby with Waltham Forest ladies 1s, both teams being on 7 points before the match. Matches between the 2 sides are always competitive and this was no exception.
Crostyx dominated the first 15 minutes, but failed to convert their chances. Then, from a well worked break away exploiting space high and wide right, Waltham Forest scored with an accurate cross and a well taken reverse stick shot. Goalkeeper, Rosie Batchelor, made an excellent save to deny the away team a second breakaway in a one on one situation. Crostyx replied with another spell of sustained pressure, hitting the post and players started to wonder whether it would be our day. Moments later a well worked move down the right resulted in Rhona Mackie finding Kat Hawes in acres of space on the right which she exploited before slipping the ball to Sarah Belsham for an easy finish.
The second half was similar with more sustained pressure from Crostyx without an end result. Waltham Forest, who were playing good counter attacking hockey, won a short corner from another breakaway and scored a well worked slip left followed by a deflection outside the left post. Again, Crostyx responded well putting together another spell of sustained pressure which resulted in a number of shorts; the last of which was converted, with about 5 minutes to go, by Laura Feldman, deflecting a well placed ball to the penalty spot. A final score of 2-2 and a point for each team.
