L1 vs Colchester

Stephen Leel19 Oct 2015 - 20:01

Thanks to Alys Rowland for the report

Crostyx Ladies 1s travelled to deepest Essex on Saturday to Colchester.

After a tough training session mid-week and superb availability the Ladies selected for the 1s squad were keen not to disappoint Coach, Simon Blockley.

Belsham opened the flood gates of the first half with a neatly timed set piece from a long corner finding Feldman out on the right to switch the ball across for Belsham to tuck away nicely. The second of the match found Feldman high up the pitch on her reverse stick, a wild shot across the goal mouth found Rowland at the far post quivering in anticipation at the slight chance of connecting with the wayward ball. Connection complete - Feldman to Rowland. And Crostyx's 2nd Goal!!

The third goal came again from Rowland after a great interception from Lawes and a swift series of passes with Greene found Rowland in aches of space, so much so Rowland decided to shoot off of her unnatural reverse. Not so unnatural on Saturday it would seem!

Colchester broke a few times through the high and tight Crostyx ring, Berill, Daltrey Smith and Blockley working tirelessly to ensure they did not break the final line of defence.

The fourth and final goal of the first half came from a solo effort from Feldman and a trademark disguised ball.. Was it even supposed to go goal-bound? Who knows!

A positive halftime atmosphere was soon quashed and a realisation that the pressure needed to continue, along with the goals for the second half clouded over.

Another 3 in the second half, Belshams 2nd with a neat bit of trickery on the post. Hawes made the score line with a belting hit from the top of the D when found by Smith in space. Day sealed the match with Crostyx's 7th scoring from a broken down short corner after 'doing a skill'.

Hatrick avoidance from Belsham and Rowland but so good to see the goals spread between so many players on the pitch.

Man of the match went to the hockey machine, Sophie Smith.

Crostyx play Brentwood this coming Saturday 24th October, 2pm at Lea Valley Stadium
