After another fantastic season at Crostyx for our 3 Ladies and 4 Mens teams, with plenty to celebrate, we are particularly celebrating a season which saw two of our teams promote, the Ladies 3s and the Men's 1s.
The Ladies 3s were unbeaten throughout the season, only dropping two points and blowing the East Division 6 East away. Gill "Pill" Woods was particularly influential in this feat, scoring 30+ goals and proving to be a great role model for the juniors coming through the ranks and starting out in Ladies hockey. A season captain Zoe Sumpter and Crostyx are very proud of and one that sees them climbing into Division East 5 next season.
The Men's 1s push for promotion came right down to the final day of the season, sitting second in the league (with a 1 better goal difference than 3rd) and knowing 2 teams would be promoted, all that was needed was to match the team sitting below them in the table's result to secure promotion. This was easier said than done when playing top of the league who had not dropped a point all season and the team in 3rd playing a mid table team. This challenge saw the First Team rise to the occasion and put in a truly heroic performance to beat top of the league 2-1 in front of a jubilant Crostyx crowd that had gathered to cheer the guys on. All the meanwhile, the team in third and hunting Crostyx down in the chase for promotion ended up drawing their game 3-3 which meant Crostyx had done enough and secured the promotion spot.
Plenty of players contributed to the 75 goals scored across the season, however vice-captain Christian Hall topped the charts with 12.
Under the leadership of Aaron Phillips, who led by example throughout the season, and Coach Tim Watson, the Men's First Team will be playing in Division 1 next season where we will meet local rivals such as East London Mens 1s.
Other league standings across the club were as follows:
Ladies 1s - 7th in Division 1 South (maintain)
Ladies 2s - 11th in Division 2 South East (relegated)
Mens 2s - 9th in Divison 3 North (maintain)
Mens 3s - 3rd in Division 4 South East (maintain)
Mens 4s- 9th in Division 6 South East (maintain)
